Advanced Hairdressing Framework Apprenticeships

Course overview

One of the best ways of up-skilling to become a specialist in your chosen

profession is to complete an Advanced Apprenticeship. To do this you would

need to already have achieved your Intermediate Hairdressing Apprenticeship or

have an alternative appropriate Level 2 qualification and experience in

hairdressing. As an Advanced Apprentice, you are employed in one of the many

hairdressing salons that JET work with throughout Essex & the surrounding counties –

developing higher level skills and abilities, which will benefit your commercial

clients, your employer and your own competencies. You will develop these skills

depending on your salon’s preferred training options, either at one of JET’s purpose

built academies in Basildon, Chelmsford, or Leigh-on-Sea, or at your own workplace salon. You

should expect your Advanced Apprenticeship to last 18-24 months.

After an interview and initial assessment to determine your individual requirements,

a learning plan will be created to meet your individual training needs. This will be

agreed by you and your employer and a full induction to the Advanced

Apprenticeship programme will be given by one of our Training Co-ordinators.

 

The Advanced Apprenticeship programme develops the skills required to be a successful stylist.

You will develop skills in the following areas:

  • Creatively style and dress hair
  • Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques
  • Creatively colour and lighten hair
  • Provide client consultation services
  • Fulfil salon reception duties*
  • Cut men’s hair using basic techniques*
  • Develop and enhance creative hairdressing skills*
  • Create a variety of permed looks*
  • Contribute to the financial effectiveness of the business*
  • Hair colour correction services*
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities*
  • Health & Safety across all units and current legislation

Training & Assessment

As an Advanced Apprentice in Hairdressing, you have the opportunity to be

assessed both in your place of work and at our academies.

JET Hairdressing Academy has state-of-the-art facilities offering advanced

apprentices the opportunity to develop their skills through working on members of

the public as well as through demonstrations, practical workshops, theory sessions

& tutorials.

You will be supported and encouraged throughout your Advanced

Apprenticeship and will receive quality teaching from highly trained, enthusiastic

and qualified staff.

Assessment will be continuous through oral, written and practical work to monitor

your progress. Certification will be accredited on completion of your e-portfolio of

evidence and achievement of Functional Skills.

Guidance and Support

JET Hairdressing Academy are recognised for providing outstanding support to

their learners and if during your initial assessment we feel that you would benefit

from additional help, we will develop a support package to suit your individual

needs.

 

Employment

As an Advanced apprentice, you will be employed at a salon, working at least 30

hours per week (at least 16hrs for exceptional circumstances), earning the current

apprenticeship wage (www.gov.uk) depending on your age and time on the

Advance Apprenticeship programme. You may progress to the current National

Minimum wage for your age group. As an employed Advanced Apprentice, you

will already have a contract of employment and your employer will designate a

salon supervisor to mentor and guide you through the Advanced Apprenticeship

Programme whilst you are in the salon.

Qualification

On successful completion of your Advanced Hairdressing Apprenticeship

framework, you will have achieved the following:

  • City & Guilds Hairdressing NVQ/Diploma Level 3
  • Functional Skills in English and Maths at Level 2 (depending on your GCSE results you may need to complete exams in English & Maths)

As well as receiving certificates for the above you will receive a Hairdressing

Advanced Apprenticeship Framework completion certificate.

You will also have a better understanding of Employment Rights and

Responsibilities and will have further developed your personal learning and

thinking skills.

BEST OF ALL- you will be a competent and confident hairdresser; able to offer the

full range of hairdressing services to your clients. You will have a record of

continued employment in the hairdressing industry, and your skills will be highly

sought after by salon employers across the UK and aboard.

Progression

When you have completed your Level 3 Advance Apprenticeship you may wish to progress onto:

  • Level 4 Diploma in Salon Management Practice & Advance Techniques in

the Hair & Beauty Sector – suitable for aspiring salon managers or business owners

  • Permanent employment as a Senior stylist or Hairdresser
  • Full time higher education

Funding

Advanced Apprenticeship Programmes are fully funded up to the age of 19 (subject to eligibility). If you are over 19, your salon will pay 10% towards your funding.
